Terengganu win three gold medals to dominate Formula Future
PETALING JAYA: Terengganu proved to be the dominant force in the Formula Future national championships, winning three of five gold medals at stake at Taman Botani in Putrajaya.

In the two-day championships that concluded yesterday, Terengganu came out tops in the Class 1, 2 and 4 competitions. Pahang won in Class 3 while the Federal Territories bagged the gold medal in Class 5.

The gold medals for Terengganu came from brothers Akef Hilmie (Class 1) and Muhd Zhafree Ammar Mohd Zamry (Class 2) with Nik Daniel Afiffudin winning in Class 4.
Pahang’s Muhd Hanif Ramli of Pahang bagged the gold medal in Class 3 while the FT’s Muhd Faqih Noor Hamzah claimed the Class 5 title.
The gold medallists will get to compete in the world championships in Merseyside, England, from Aug 13-15.
The managing director of H2O Sports Sdn Bhd, Datuk Jalil A. Yahya, a key figure in promoting the sport in the country, said that the five winners would be joined by all the five second-place finishers of the national championships in a 10-member team.
“Centralised training begins next week in Putrajaya to prepare for the challenges to regain the overall title in the world championships,” he said.
Malaysia were champions in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008 and were the runners-up in 2006. Malaysia opted out of last year championships due to H1N1 pandemic.

Semoga terus berjaya.
